I need to replace a few worn exhaust studs on my Lycoming that are rusted and tight.
Are there any secrets that I should know before attacking them with a set of vicegrips? What penetrating fluid/oil is recomended to climb uphil to loosen the threads? Is there a trick of jambing two nuts to turn out with a wrench ( this is how I go the others out)?
I have visions of snapping one off and having to pull a jug to drill it out, etc. A few are worn to a smaller diameter, and I can't keep the nuts tight enough to keep the gaskets from blowing at full power.
Thanks for the help.Edited by: dustertoo
