• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

It's conditional inspection time, we were checking the flying wire attachment and noticed that in some cases on 84MM there was no washer inside the flying wire attachment bracket (part 144 sheet 15). With no spacer/bushing the gap can be as much as 0.25 inches. Part 144 is a bracket with a 0.75 inch gap with a flying wire attachment 0.50 inches wide. A 5/16 inch pin part #160 is used to attach the flying wire to the bracket.

The 5/12/1999 drawings show no washer or bushing allowing the flying wire attachment to slide on the pin inside the bracket. I am thinking there needs to be a washer or spacer added to prevent the landing /flying wires from moving /sliding and loosing tension. If so I am thinking the wire attachment needs to be centered in part 144 on the clevis pin. Suggestions ?
