So in tonight's Assembly and Rigging (A&P curriculum) class we broached the subject of biplane rigging. Learned/re-learned about stagger, decalage, cabanes, Interplane struts (I- and N- struts), flying wires, landing wires, slave struts...fun stuff.
I actually don't know some basics about the plane I am building (Firebolt):
Positive stagger, I assume?
Incidence angles on the top and bottom wings?
Dihedral on either wing?
Sweep (top, bottom)?
Deflection of control surfaces?
Push/pull tubes or cables?
Where are all these details located? On the Blueprints?
In the lab portion of the class we were re-installing the wings on an Aeronca Champ and I found myself studying the ribs and drag/anti-drag wire fittings and bracing struts (correct terminology?), all visible without the fabric. Heck, it doesn't look THAT difficult to put one of these together! Substitute wood for formed metal ribs, plywood leading edges vs. sheet metal....
