• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

The Acro Sport II is designed with a lot ofexpensive rod-ends. The plans cals for 31 very expensive Fafnir rod-ends for the push-pull-tubes, aileron hinges and other applications. In some cases they can be substituted with the slightly cheaper Heim Uniball rod-ends, which I think is the same quality and even better in some respect, as they havemore movement-range.
But thereis another rod-end manufacturer, Aurora. I am about to make my aileron slave struts, and the plans calls for a Fafnir RAP3-M4-2, which cost $ 71.25 in the catalogue from Wicks. But there is alsoan Aurora XM-3at only $ 8.45. The Aurora is not quite identical, but the important dimensions are the same, soI think itcan be used as a substitute.
But is it the same quality? After allthere is a huge price-difference betwen the two rod-ends, and usually qualitydemands ahigh price.
Maybe someone here have any good or bad experience with the Aurora rod-ends ??
