• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Working on my panel layout and cleaning up the old instruments that will be recycled. I’m familiar with the typical certified ASI markings, but this is leading to confusion on what is on the current instrument. These markings may go back to 1964, but I don’t think they are right. Aircraft is placarded for 203mph Vne, but the ASI does not have that marked. I believe stall speed is 64 or 65mph. There are maneuver speed placards in the cockpit as well. As you can see in the attached picture, white arc has been remarked at 65 to 100mph. This would normally be flap extended speed….so this seems wrong. Green is 75-120, and then yellow 120 to 160. Does an experimental S1S have a yellow arc? What is it typically and how was it derived? I’m thinking that properly marked, mine might have a red arc at 203mph, and green from 65 to 203mph. OR, does it get a yellow arc from 154mph to 203mph. 154 appears in the TCDS as the maneuvering speed. My internet search has failed me so far.
