• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $29.95/year to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction).

S1S (Raven Mods)
<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
This was a complete Pitts S1S built from factory kits/parts in 1986, all logs and CoA included. <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />US registration cancelled with a view to export, currently located in Surrey, BC Canada (Raven Aircraft)

It had approximately 500hrs on the airframe then sent to Raven Aircraft for modification. Complete aircraft with engine and propeller removed.

Modifications include spring gear conversion. New spring gear included, custom built by Grove and includes wheels and brakes. Dimensions are 23.75” tall (stock 21.75”), 52” track (stock 48”) and 1” thick (stock 7/8”). Weighs 25.4lbs compared to stock weight of 21lbs.

New tail section built by Raven, squared off similar to the Raven 2XS. Vertical fin also modified. Modified for Raven locking tailwheel.

Wings are custom Raven with long span ailerons, squared off tips and 1” longer cord, usual Raven wing mods have been incorporated. Lowers have been built by Raven, upper wing needs to be finished. All kit parts are included. These will be awesome wings, custom fit for this fuselage. Flying wires included.

Fuselage has been modified to fit sheet metal to the rear, similar to the 2XS. Will make for easy inspections and no weight penalties are anticipated.

Includes 4 into 1 exhaust, some instrumentation.

It comes with the old (factory) bungee landing gear, original sheet metal, canopy, firewall, cowl, fuel tank, controls etc etc. The original parts that are not included are the tail grouping, wings, I struts and slave struts.

This is an advanced project for someone to complete, it wouldn’t take much to get it back in the air. It will definitely be a performer.

This aircraft was going to be used to test some concepts for the Raven 1XS, there has been a change of plans and the 1XS will continue to be built from the ground up.

Once finished, this will be a one of a kind aircraft, built from factory parts and modified by one of the best there is.

I know this is inconsistent with the Forum rules (sorry Beej & Daryl!) but will be accepting offers. I have invested a fair bit of cash into this but would like to sell it relatively quickly to fund other projects.

Rob at Raven will be more than happy to answer any questions about the aircraft.

Will also consider cash and part trade for something interesting (doesnt need to be aviation related!)

There is $6900 in the wing kit minimum, $1900 for the tail section and $1500 in the Grove Gear. Then labor for the other mods, lowers being built etc. Then the factory parts.
It would take a minimum of $15k USD plus a Gentex helmet shipped to Australia. It would be a steal at that price.
As far as trades go, I would take $10k cash and something on top of that to equivalent value to the above. Would be open to ideas on that.

Received a few PM's about it, some even kind of strange. I will answer some in the open forum...

There is no damage history to the aircraft. Logbooks are available and come with the project. I bought it out of California then had it trucked to Raven, it was registered in the US.

I am open to offers but reasonable ones would be highly appreciate. I wont sell it for 5k.

The Gentex Helmet as part trade was just a suggestion, it would need to fit me. Open to other suggestions too, something cool. Something that I can [legally] ship to Australia.

If you ask Rob, he may be able to pack it for shipping. From experience, the rates are pretty reasonable.

Yes, it is on Ebay at the moment. I wouldnt mind selling it relatively quickly to fund some other stuff. Pretty much if I sold it by 1 March I would be more relaxed on offers.
