• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I have to rebuild the cowl for my older, short, originally S1C, since I’m adding a starter and the old cowl is too short. I have an angle valve O-290-D2, so the heads are larger than the original parallel valve. I was hoping to use closed cowl doors like the S1T. I contacted Aerographics and they have discontinued the aluminum doors. I called Aviat and they say they only have fiberglass for at least 20 years. This contradicts what I read and heard. They provided me the number for the fiberglass doors, but did not know what the aluminum doors might have been.

Does anybody have the part number for the aluminum S1T doors or does anybody have a set they won’t use? I am hesitant to buy the composite doors because I don’t have faith that the contour will match a modern T. Any other suggestions? I don’t think I have the skill or patience to make my own. If no other option, I will just stick to the open style doors.
Thanks for any help.
Rob
