• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I'm getting ready to further disassemble my wreck to transport it home, and trying to figure out how to do it while minimizing further damage. I haven't stripped too much of the fabric yet and I'd rather not yet until it's home, but I want to separate the top wing to fit on the trailer. I shoulda looked at the plans before I left home...

The bolted on plates that hold the spars together are clear enough, but the trailing edge is less clear... It looks like it's a continuous piece of small streamline tubing that forms the curved trailing edge, welded to the crossbar that attaches at the upper landing wire fittings (and also serves as the hand hold). If that's the case, then apparently I can't separate the wings without cutting something? Not a big deal, but as I said I'd like to minimize cutting of undamaged structure.

If I can't get it apart cleanly today, I may just cut it where it's broken (just outboard of the I-strut) which may let it fit (barely) on the larger trailer I'll use to move the fuselage home next weekend.
