Just wanted to share some info about those I-strut bolt head fairings I asked about in previous posts. Wanted to share with readers who didn't know too.
What they are, are self aligning washers meant to compensate for the airfoil curvature on top of the wings during assembly. The designer gave them a teardrop shape for appearance.
The aligning washers are a two piece arrangement. The bottom or teardrop shaped piece contacts the wing and has a 1/2" holeat the bottom of a larger concave or bowl shaped hole to accept the bolt head and floating washer. The teardrop piece is about 2" long. A convex shaped floating washer sits inthebowl shaped cup where the bolt head sits in the teardrop piece. Both the teardrop part and convex floating washer are sold for $4 each at Aviat. A set of fourself aligning washer assemblies for topwing upper surface alone,will cost $32 plus shipping. Double that if a biplane owner wishes to do both upper and lower wings.....yikes! Edited by: Biplane45
