• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Greetings all, and hope this finds you all doing well. I continue to work on flying off my Phase 1, however I have encountered a small problem. During my last preflight, I discovered the piece of tire sidewall I used as the landing gear bumper on my Skybolt in the belly of the airplane. Appears that the adhesive stuck fine to the rubber, but lost its adhesion to the bottom of the landing gear truss. I would really hate to cut bungees that have been on the plane less than a year in order to open a gap between the top tubes of the gear and the truss, so I'm wondering if anyone has ever successfully splayed the landing gear before without removing the bungees. I have a 540 up front and 3 of the heavy duty cords on each side, and the last thing I want to do is bend the gear mounting tabs exerting force improperly. If I have to cut them, I have to cut them.. but I'd much rather not, but I also can't let the steel on steel contact go. Thanks!
