• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Apologies if this has been asked a hundred times before, but I can't seem to find a definite answer...

I have taken over a project started some years ago in the early 90's, built with some of the earlier 60' and 70's plans.
Moving forward, I want to build the most up to date Starduster, with the correct geometry and have found plans for sale with Aircraft Spruce. Torn whether to buy the latest plans or stick with what I have?

There was an 'update' with the location of the undercarriage and length of the engine mount. I've read the update needs:
Gear mounted 8" Aft of the firewall - mine 12" Aft of firewall
Engine mount 26" - mine is approximately 24" ( I have read I can modify and lengthen this to 26")

Can anyone shed any light over these modifications and if there are any more worth considering?

Many thanks in advance.
