Anyone flying a Hatz to Sun-N-Fun???
Did go to Sun-N -Fun
Really a just a nice RV display --no experimental biplanes on the exp field .
Yes only vendors there with biplanes, Pitts, skybolt, the Steve wolf mini with the radial and the Waco on floats. No home built biplanes mostly RVs and a scattering of other designs
I guess we need to keep them flying. Take them to airshows and fly-ins.
Was it another electronics show for RV owners and builders?
We really wanted to go. To many things happing at home this year. Will make a effort to be there next year. I really like SF very relaxed atmosphere. Planning to go to OSK. Should be a good group from the East Coast?
Those dam RV's. After the RV3 the whole line went on a downward spiral.
not going to osh this year, but plan on having the asiis and a booth at snf next year.......
If you want a great place to go on the east coast go to Trippletree in Sept. Best fly in anywhere. Lots of biplanes, classics, and a few of those damn RV's.
Hey now, Vans has tons of good biplane parts.
I have enough left over parts from their baffle kits to last at least another 5 projects. Still one of the best values available......damn them!
There is enough of those RV's around that they have the same status as Cherokee's, Lycoming donors.
As a past Sun N Fun biplane winner and now a Sun N Fun judge for the EXP. class I can tell you that the last thing thing the judges want to see is rows of RV's and nothing else. Most RV's fall under the kit built category and most biplanes fall under the plans built category so sometimes all a biplane has to do is show up to win! Some of the judges are RV owners and agree its not as much fun judging rows of RV's as you have to knit pick and understand mods to make judgments.Workmanship goes along way no matter what it is.Also make sure your present to answer questions about your project and a at least a small presentation too. (adds points)
Well it seems that many fly-ins are suffering attendance issues regarding the small biplanes. Attendance at Arlington the last several yrs has been very poor, but even the RVs attendance was down, as well as many others, even the Canadians have had a poor turn out compared to the past. It is kind of a shame, in that there are well over 50 biplanes registered in and around the Seattle area. I guess if people fly them they never go anywhere doing so? Will, from Antacortes, my son Dan and other than the airshow biplanes one other Wolf Pitts and John Smutny did fly his eagle, but that seems to be it?
We were unable to attend many of our local fly-ins this last yr, mostly due to severe Forrest fires! But the overall attendance has been down at many of these events over the last several yrs? Hood River in early Sept has been the best, but it is mostly antique biplanes. Dave
EAA weekly web news about S&F has tons of pictures. If you leave out the airshow airplanes and the ultralights there are just THREE pictures of homebuilt airplanes.
This has been a trend since Busha took over publications and they got rid of all the good photographers. I had high hopes for Busha. The only logical answer is that he hates homebuilt airplanes. So we got rid of one homebuilt hater and got an even worse replacement.
I think we should petition EAA to change their name. new name ABH-anything but homebuilts. Paul P must be turning over in his grave.
I love the Vintage airplanes and the Warbirds, except for the jets. But both groups have their own magazines. Why does Sport Aviation need to be nonstop warbirds???
WHAT I though there would be two awesome biplanes coming from you town? You must working on something top secrete.
I am surprised that there are not more biplanes at osh. I don't think I am the only one who is disappointed. _________ Dave
If you want biplanes during Oshkosh go to Broadhead.
Now I'm feeling even more guilty we didn't fly up to SnF this year. We drove up. Well, next year! (I couldn't get the weekend from from work, but we could have been there for a least a couple of days during the week...)
