Reciently I found gas escaping from my newly purchased Skybolt while inverted. The fuel is coming from the main tank fuel cap. Upon further examination I found the cap had a couple of holes drilled in the base and I could blow air through these holes; an obvious answere to why gas is escaping. I then went to Aircraft Spruce to purchase a new cap and found the aerobatic thermos stype pressure caps. The description says it is non vented for gravity feed systems. It then goes on to say they recommend drilling a 3/32 hole in the bottom plate and stud. My present cap has two holes. The system has an overflow located onthe lower part of the right gear leg. Is this not the vent? Why should I drill another hole in the cap? Can anyone shed some light on this situation. I certainl do not want to do anything that may restrict or prohibit fuel flow.
