• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Full disclaimer, this would be easy to answer on my own BUT this pitts has only been flown off of grass it's whole life and I want to mitigate any unnecessary challenges for my first venture onto pavement. It's hard to tell how much the grass covers up any undesirable characteristics, but so far, it's been less than a handful on roll out other than what I've read is the usual squirrel moment when slowing through 40-30mph.

The only time it really gets your attention up to now has been on takeoff just before 60, it starts to get a hop and pull left tendency. I've found keeping it slightly tail low and let it fly off has mostly corrected that issue.

We went through the process of dropping center and pulled distances fore and aft 5ft of the axle to exaggerate any angles and came up with .2° toe-in left gear, .34° toe in right gear.

Without any relativity it's hard to know whether these are minor "close to perfect" numbers, or if it's worth straightening to neutral/slight toe out?

Thoughts?
