• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Strange data plate on my Ultimate 10-200. Guess it's an 'Ultimate Lycoming'.
Trying to figure out what I can as Larry Kuusisto gets no hits on google as far as I can tell. Talking to Sky Dynamics this morning (Hey, the phone call doesn't cost that much!), he was looking at the sump (yeah, that's gonna cost me) and said he thought it looked like an HIO sump. Which makes sense, I understand Monty Barrett likes to use those for his acro motors. Maybe that's what Ultimate used. I do know that the builder- Larry Baldwin- apparently called it an Ultimate 10-230. And it runs great. But I just don't know much about what is likely to be inside, and it's running too dang well to tear into it.

My question: Anyone know any details about these motors? Is it an HIO case, heavy crank, things to look out for other thatn the usual?
