Guys,
I'm down to very few remaining parts to go thru on my Waco Rebuild. It has a (not-original) D-3 fuel valve that has been installed since 1968. I finally got around to opening it up today and wasn't too excited about what I found.
The shaft that runs thru the center is surrounded by a tapered piece of cork. The cork was in awful shape. The assembly that my fuel valve mounts to is fairly complex and I wouldn't enjoy replacing it. I"ll have to rebuild this or mount a similar valve in the same position.
I assume some warbird guys, Howard DGA guys, etc have been there and done that before me. I have a couple of questions for those that have.
Does this valve normally weep? Will the valve work without the cork installed (It seems stable, but maybe it would leak?) ?
Is there a common way these valves have been rebuilt? or are they normally Sh!!canned and a modern valve put in place?
I'll post some pictures in a few minutes from another device.
Regards
Dan
