• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I gather that the upper wing splice plates that attach to the cabanes cannot be fitted to the spars until rigging in order to obtain the correct incidence etc....
I notice on the plans there is no fix point for either spar. I would have imagined the front spar plateshaving a fix on the plans and the rear spar platesleft untouched for adjustment before drilling the plates in[similar to the lower wingfront fuselage fitting being fixed, and the aft fitting left loose].

Does this mean that in order to obtain the correct heights for the splice plates, you have to work from the lower wings up? ie,bolt the splice plates to the cabanes, rig the lower wings for correctincidence, attach I-struts, then sit the upper wing on, obtain correct incidence, then mark-off for the plates?

I am interested in this because I was hoping to add the center section ply/tank and leading ply edge, but it looks like I can't do this until the correct incidence is achieved...
