• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

You know how you take Spin lessons and they teach you these cool spin recovery techniques.... But, you SAW the plane enter the spin, so you kinda already know what is going on. Even if you had your eyes closed you kinda felt it, so you have a clue. So you never really trust the fact that it works in an emergency.

It does.

So I decided to hire a coach for three days of coaching. The guy is amazing, but has a totally new to me snap technique.... Not saying much since I just learned to snap this year.

Anyway, without going into details, his snap technique can easily be turned into a tumble by a ham fisted pilot.... This is where I come into the story. I am ham fisted, it tumbled. Another cool thing is a tumble has kinda the same inputs as an inverted flat spin!

As a bonus, I am also about 1500-2000 feet.

So after, 'I got this' led to 'I clearly don't got this' and that led to, 'What is this, this I was thinking I had.' I snapped into my FART recovery method and managed to not die.

And it being named FART clearly had nothing to do with being able to expel gasses via that orafice..... It was locked up tight.
