Hi everybody,

I bought a Skybolt S. I have lower performance than what I expect.... I know this is really relative to the craftmanship...

Some info : Lycoming IO-360-A4A of 180hp, empty weight 1220 pounds, open cockpit.

The flight performance at +/- 1550 pounds and 68 fahrenhigt OAT are : cruise speed at 75% is around 126 mph, Rate of climb 700' per minutes, AND THE STALL SPEED (power off) +/- 67 mph!!!!
Airspeed indicator is good (this is not indicator problem).

Stall speed is really high.... the plane looks relatively well built BUT it doesn't have wing fairing, horizontal stab fairing and the high portion of the landing gear strut doesn't have fairing too..... THE MISSING FAIRING, IS IT ENOUGH TO BE THE REASON OF THIS LOW PERFORMANCE ??? or that doesn't help but it's much than that??.....

Second question, what is the best way to do wing and stab fairing for an aircraft already finish (covered and paint since 17 years)? Is it better to make the hole in the fuselage with composite fairing or to make some aluminum fairing that finish with a 90 degrees angle with the fuselage.... can i make hole in the first rib of the plane to bolt the fairing or i need to do something special before make a hole in the wing throught the fabric to reach the rib...

Thanks!
