    • In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.
    • We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction).

Recent starting issues (that appear to be mainly battery related) have made me take a look at the entire starting system. My Hatz currently has an old Delco 1109657 starter on its O-290. I seem to recall reading that the newer starters are not only lighter but draw less current. What's the group wisdom on what starter to use (at a reasonable price)?

A lighter starter may also let me move the battery from behind the seat to somewhere farther forward, reducing the voltage drop along the long cable.

Similarly, the alternator is a Lecce-Neville Prestolite 8AR2169F, which I can find nothing on, dunno whether it's an aircraft alternator or from a car supplier. It seems to work fine, though I'd like to bump the voltage up a bit to better charge the Odyssey AGM battery.
