• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Recently, I decided it was time to bolt up the Raven wings I'm building for my Pitts and do a preliminary fit check before attaching the leading edges and such, so off go the old wings and on with the new ones. It went pretty well, surprisingly little malletization required.

Fitting complete, the Ravens went back to the table and I put the old wings back on. Don't want to be grounded while building. I checked and rechecked the rigging, bolts, nuts, and screws before taking off for a quick test flight. Loops, rolls and spins, no surprises. It flew as it did before. I was hoping that, with the new wings underway, the old ones would feel the threat and roll faster - they did not.

As I got back to the pattern, I found the one thing I missed on reassembly - the pitot and static hookups. Not much of an issue, since I had a 15 knot headwind, but annoying nonetheless.

Next time I think I'll write some of this stuff down into some sort of a check list or something.
