I noticed today that the "Building the AcroSport" book shows a different layout for the 1/4 inch bolts through the aluminum flying wire plates than the pink AS II plans. The book shows the bolts being sort of in the corners of the rectangular plates, while the plans show two bolts on the spar centerline, and the other two directly above/below the hole for the wire attach pin.
I assume the plans take precedence over the book, but the arrangement in the book makes more sense to me. It seemed odd that the plates were rectangular - the corners seem to be just extra weight with the bolts in the middle of the edges instead of the in the corners. Also, the three holes lined up vertically seem like a weak point in the spar. On the other hand, maybe having those two bolts where they are sort of clamp the spar together where the I-strut bolts go through vertically? I didn't find anything in the newsletters, or searching the forum.
Since everything about the AcroSports was copied from the Pitts, what do the Pitts plates look like?
