• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

We had a couple of electrical teething issues while prepping last night, but we fixed those. Today was the big day. I was surprised at the level of anxiety I had when the moment came! All those horror stories I had read about over the years of unlucky first engine runs were in the back of my mind; I once even saw a youtube video of a first run where the landing gear collapsed :0|.

This video is of the the 3rd but 1st successful attempt. The first two attempts fired up, but lasted only 1 second, due to me struggling with working the throttle and mixture. 3rd time lucky. It was tied to a truck, and had another 70 pounds of weights over the tail. The very 1st attempt lifted the the tail about 20 inches!

Known issues:
I need to adjust the idle, since the idle was 1080 RPM. LOL.
The spinner has a wobble; about 1/8.
1 CHT wasn't talking.

Anyways, what a milestone! Wow.
