I used my first S-2A while in NJ as a corporate airplane servicing my client (Butler Aviation) at their bases from Boston to DCA. I walked out to my airplane at BWI and two very official looking guys with serious looks on their faces and ID badges were looking into my cockpit.Or the Navajo with the Q-Tip Hartzell props (Colemill conversion?) they grounded saying both engines had prop strikes!
Although trying to be courteous, their question had a demand edge to it for an explanation as to why my transponder was mounted upside down (on the back of the front seat). I came within microseconds of saying, "It's an aerobatic airplane so it's upside down" but caught myself. They were okay with my explanation that, when right side up, the knobs covered the digits.
