• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi all,
Recently picked up a skybolt project with lots of extras.
Overall the fuse looks to be ok however I have noted a few issues with it which has me considering whether to start the fuselage from scratch or abandon the project altogether.
See photos below,
The top longeron at station 85(pilot seat back location) bows inwards around 3/8s of an inch, then corrects itself by about station 111.
I'm assuming this has moved in the final welding stage and gone unnoticed?
With the amount of clusters and tubing in that area i cant see how one would go about straightening it out.
Obviously if you were to throw some sheet metal and turtle deck on as it is you'll notice the bow along the top longeron.
Are there any feasible options to sort this out that wouldn't require major surgery?
Worth noting the bottom longerons are fine.
