What are people seeing for the best climb speed (Vy) in a Hatz?
I did a series of tests today, climbing at different speeds. The results surprised me:
50kts IAS 896 fpm
55kts 898 fpm
60kts 858 fpm
65kts 798 fpm
70fkts 662 fpm
This is at 1200# takeoff weight (pilot, no passenger, half fuel), O-290-D engine. Stall speed is 45kts indicated. I expected the best climb to be somewhat higher, at 50kts the airplane is really hanging on the prop pointed at the sky.
