Today I had a nice talk with Glenn Harr, builder of the 160hp Skybolt test flown by Bud Davisson and mentioned in the 1994 Sport Aviation article: http://www.steenaero.com/articles_detail.cfm?ArticleID=14
Glenn is 87 years old now and flies a Great Lakes that he built. He sold the Skybolt in the 90's and it's now for sale on Trade-a-Plane.
He said the empty weight was just a little over 1000 lbs. He used a 160 hp engine, an IO 320, because he already had one on hand for a Pitts but decided to build a Skybolt instead.
I didn't think to mention this forum to him and don't even know if he uses the internet. But, if you members would say hello to him I'll send him an invitation to join up.
