This is kind of tangentially related to Firewall Forward, so sure...
I am building a new one-car garage to be my Charger manufactory, and one of the things I requested in the design is a fixed steel beam about 3' back from the car door, which would support 1000 lbs, to be used as an engine hoisting location. I've used beams for a variety of hoisting tasks in the past, and having a fixed location never bothered me much, but it may be different for mounting an engine.
What do you, the assembled Biplane Forum braintrust, think about having a fixed hoisting location built into a workshop, vs. the versatility/movement of having a wheeled lift of some variety? It occurs to me that having my lift location be immovable might be too limiting when it comes time to mount the engine, and it might make more sense to rent a mobile lift instead. I won't have space to keep a floor-based lift around on any kind of permanent basis.
