Just noticed in StinsonPilot's museum pics (Thanks-nice selection), that many of the WWII era high performance AC engines used individual short stacks for exhaust!
On a 4cyl Lyc for example, any info on how much HP would be lost by not having the scavenging ability of crossover or 4into1????
Would save weight, improve airflow inside cowling?, remove some heat inside cowling?, etc.
I know Harold Chappell did this with his 6cyl.
If using a stub exhaust, what length? 90 degree bend?
?????
