Flying with the S1 canopy open

I know that the S1 canopy can be flown with it open to the first notch. But I have been told by others that it can be flown fully open as long as the airspeed is kept down.

The manual says not to go past the first notch above 120MPH.

But others have told me not to do it.

So what is the real world scoop?
