• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Here are some parameters for the old donuts on my plane: Cylindrical with equatorial bulge, 3" Primary OD, 3.3" Equatorial OD, 1.25" ID, .91" THK, Durometer 60A, Molded Black Elastomer

The new donuts available from Univair are :Cylindrical, 3" OD, 1.25" ID, 1.0 THK, Durometer 70A, Cut from Cast Black Elastomer Rod

Are there any sources for the old style donut?

Does anyone have an unused donut of the old style? This is the style with the equatorial bulge on it. I would like to know if they are molded 1" thick like the new Univair ones and took at set over time or if they are molded at .91" thick like the one I measured from my plane.

I am looking to make my own donuts and replace one donut per shock strut with a 50A donut. The idea is that this will create a dual rate spring with better low end shock absorbtion.

Thanks,
Glenn
