This is a new post to discuss engine assembly lube.
http://www.lycoming.com/Portals/0/t.../Pre-Lubrication of Parts Before Assembly.pdf
Lycoming SI 1059D, PreLubrication of Parts Before Assembly, states,
Apply a coating of undiluted lubricant to the following parts during engine
assembly.
1. Camshaft Lobes
2. Face of Tappet Body
3. Valve Stems
4. Valve Guides
5. Supercharger Bearing (where applicable)
6. Piston Pin Plugs
7. Connecting Rod Assembly*
8. Crankshaft Thrust Bearing Surface
"Apply a mixture of 15% prelubricant and 85% SAE No. 50 mineral base aviation grade lubricating oil to all other engine parts."
It lists four approved assembly lubes.
1. Texaco Thuban 140
2. Lubribond (A) – Fulfills MILL23398 Spec.
3. Tex MOLYTEX EP 0
4. Castrol Contractor Special NLGI #1
Lubribond A is "An air dry, MoS2/Graphite based solid film lubricant with an epoxy binder system".
The MSDS shows this as 5-10% Molybdenum Disulfide, and the rest Methyl Ethyl Ketone and other minor transports.
http://www.skygeek.com/everlube-lub...lm-lubricant-1-quart-mil-l-23398b-plbaqt.html
It also states, "other equivalent lubricants can be used for prelubrication".
What is the consensus (if there is one ) for assembly lube?
