• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

When I rebuilt my upper wing I relocated the pitot static tube from the lower wing to the upper so I would not knock into it so much. I was attempting to reinstall the tub into the plenum yesterday and found the threads cut into the AL tube assembly were stripped away. It will no longer thread. I was tempted to just liberally apply some plumber's tape and cross my fingers, but the A&P I'm working with gave me a dirty look and told me to try to replace it. The trouble is, it does not look like a Raven part (as we originally thought). In fact, I'm suspecting it is builder-produced. Here are a couple photos. Has anyone else ever seen one of these? Any advice for cutting new threads? Its kind of hard when there is not enough material to do so.

So close...I'm also now lengthening my slave struts - I didn't think about it, but since I required new I-struts once the wings were rigged properly, of course I'd need longer slave struts as well. Luckily, the old ones can simply be lengthened. Just a little cutting, welding, and painting. Just one more thing to do...
