• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Greetings Lads and Laddies:I am preparing to buy an LSA type to make my (quick) return to aviation before starting a lightweight Pitts project.
The candidates are: Luscombe 8A, Vagabond 15 or 17, Taylorcraft BC12D, Aeronca chief or champ, J4 or J5, probably more or less in that order.
I've got a few hours in a Colt from a million years ago but I'm thinking that hardly compares to a Vagabond.
The short wing piper club wants an arm and a leg just to talk to them. They didn't used to, so I'm gonna ask here. Why does it seem that short wing Pipers are always wheel landed? Do they lack tail power for a full stall? Are they too short legged? What's up with that? I've always liked the Vagabond but intend because of my Pitts project to stick with full stall landings.
Whose got some time in a Vag?? Who knows the answer to this or just wants to shoot the breeze about certified LSAs?
ThanksDan
