• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi there, anyone had any experience with theidea of a light builtS1-S using standardwings and empenagewithan IO-540 in itwith a fixed pitch putting out around 250hp.

The dry weight of a IO-360 is around 150kg and the IO-540 is around 200kg, at a quick glance on wiki

Iknow Dan Rihn designed and built many of these hot rodded Pitts Specials around the 80's. These aircraft had serious horses withconstant speed props, with all the heavy bells and whistles, this resulted in Dan redesigning the fuselages to offset the weight, using basic Pitts design.I have found only 1 source of info on this.

Take a look( courtesy of muscle biplane)

So if anyone knows, would anystation points in the fuselage need to be moved aftto compensate for the weight being further out there if the engine and accesories were kept to a minimum.

All while doing this i would like to try tothe keep with the Pitts dimentions and looks basically as they should be.

Thanks, Russ.
