Hi Gang,
In a never-ending internal struggle to decide which engine to install in my Skybolt, I have narrowed my choices down to the following: It's either going to be a constant-speed IO360 (200hp) or a fixed-pitch IO540 (260hp).
According to the engine section of the Builders Manual, an IO360 A1A (200hp) weighs 320lbs. An IO540 D4A5 (260hp) weighs 402lbs.
My question is this: How much would the prop choice affect the total engine package? What would be the approximate weight difference between a constant speed 360 versus a fixed pitch 540? I know that 360's will always be lighter than 540's but by the time you add constant speed props and governors to the equation I was thinking that the weight difference might be a wash.
Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.......
Scott
