Square tubing?

Has anyone substituted square tubing for the crossmember that the bushings for the forward horizontal stab are welded to? Can't remember the station number and the plans are several hundred miles away at the moment. My thought is that it wwould make a more straight forward weld and probably stronger.
Just trying to make my life easier.
Good idea, bad idea, suck it up and do it the hard way?
