Just wondering why the typical tailwheel stinger material seems to consistently be of the stainless variety? Why not treated/ coated 41xx series chromoly? What realistic service life have users seen the stainless products go until?
I'm shopping around for a stinger for my Giles (I know this is a biplane forum, please hold your fire with the rotten tomatoes), and am curious as to why stainless appears to be more common even with its lower yield strength-
