    • In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.
    • We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction).

I am having a guy come in to TIG my I-struts in situ [I daren't gas em in situ..burnt ribs etc]. I am currently working out how to clamp the 3/4bracing tubes so he can just walk in and tack weld then remove the clamping. One of the tubes I am having trouble clamping, I don't know how TIG works, so, can I hold a tube in place while he tacks it? Or does a current run through the steel?

Also, what is the typicalsteel prep for TIG welding?

What welding rod do I need to ensure he's using?
