The engine has just over 400 TT and began flying 30 years ago. Then it sat the past ten years until it was sold in an estate sale. The new owner who had the plane for only seven months, flew it sparingly to check the top end rebuild.
The servo and divider were bench checked and found to be servivable. My concern has been with the start and subsequent ground operation requiring careful setting of the mixture control for ground ops. For runup I use the lean mixture setting and get a clean mag check at 1800. Then if I carry this to the end of the runway for T/O, the engine farts and splutters with throttle application. I have to bring up the mixture control to the forward stop for the engine to catch and produce power.
Upon landing , if I don't get the mixture smartly back to the lean position it sometimes quits. I have made an adjustment on the idle mixture wheel since I did not have an RPM rise as I retarded the mixture slowly to off. My idle RPM is 750 with a ww200 prop. Also, when I go to cut off the engine continues to diesel and pop and will not get a clean stop. This regardless of low or high idle throttle setting. Pulling the plugs indicates black sooty electrodes.
Right now after reading the manual and learning the limits for the servo are 12 years or engine TBO, I'll go to square one and have everything overhauled and SB's complied with.
Any ideas, suggestions and experiences most welcome.
Cheers, Hans
