• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I expect to have my private pilot license in a few months. I am 61, fit and in great health. I may buy a Skybolt, Starduster, or yet to be determined, airplanein a year or so, after I have completed tail dragger training, done much research and enlisted the help of an experienced pilot to advise me during my search for an airplane.

My goal is to obtain the best2 place aircraft I can find for about 50k that is good for short cross country and occassional loops, rolls, etc.

I am interested in advice and opinions anyone would care to give me concerning the best aircraft for me.

Yes, I know I am new to the pilot world, do not have several thousand hours of flight time and probably should be more concerned about retirement funds than flying off into the sunset with my wonderful wife in a gorgeous open cockpit biplane, our scarves trailing in the wind. But, as you've heard before, life is short. (No, I do not want to make it shorter.)
Thank you for your time.
Mike
