Update. After relieving cowl fretting, checking compression, plugs and timing and other possible minor issues I removed/boxed the propeller and will ship back to Lycoming. I flew for about half an hour exploring several flight regimes and found the vibration to NOT be my imagination. And note the vibration started BEFORE I dinged the prop. so I don't expect the prop will change anything upon return
As per Kendall's and other advice I've got to get to the bottom of this especially before putting the love of my life in the front seat.
I'm glad I didn't get the O540. It would have gone against my long held belief of build it LIGHT! If I install a new engine it should be a IO360.
OTOH I like the LSA compliant idea.....
So why not take Tom's(TTF1) advice and maybe "go through" my present IO320? Go back to my initial goal of LSA compliance. With a decent IO320, still high time but with confidence that it will continue for a couple 100 more hours(my original goal also), I can play and even take Marcia on local flights.
Only question is what should I consider doing with the IO320. I've been around when friends were building their Lycomings but have never been into one myself other than some top end/cylinder work?
( I suppose if you go into an engine you might as well OH it? If so I wouldn't put the $ into a IO320, better to put the bucks into a 360. So I'm really looking for the "inexpensive"(cheap) way to obtain a little confidence in the present IO320)
Thanks,
Jack
