Ok boys and girls. Every now and again you end up in the right place at the right time. I wasn't really out looking for another airplane / project but sometimes they just flop in your lap. So here's the next project to get going when the ASIIS is done. It's a derivative of the Russian interavia I-1L. But like all things Russian there were several makes of the same aircraft and this is some Alfa thing. Anyways, it's great, can't read any of the placards on the panel and there is some really cool engineering in this thing. It also came with a second wind damaged fuselage for spare parts. Soooooo although not a biplane I figure it's cool enough that you guys may like to see what I do to it.

Yea I may need to get him here for a day to through the logs and drawings! The whole thing is complete, no damage. Just need to recover the elevator, rudder and wings. Then design firewall forward ;). It had a 140 hp 4 cylinder inline engine on it. Then it was gonna get a lyc 320, but I think it'll end up with a 360 :D

I'm glad you are saving that. I like weird stuff. Reminds me when my buddy bought an AN 2 and all the gauges were marked in Russian. We got along fine with a cockpit brief and some grease pencil marks on the gauges.

Looks like a Lycoming mount. Duh RTWFP.

It is kinda like a Wilga or Stortch. Form follows function... you want it to leave the ground quickly. The ground is pretty happy to see it go too 😁.

Cool project, definitely not my first or 30th guess.

Kind of like picking up the girl at the country bar with the killer body and a bad grill. I see plenty to work with. Some of the russian designs like big diameter rivets and they often look like they set 'em with claw hammers.

One thing for sure, the odds of parking it next to another one are very low.:D

I think it is cool. Be a nice rig for those back country fishing trips. How about making us envious and tell us what you paid for it. ;) I bought a freshwater cooled 3 cylinder sailboat diesel today, running but high time for $30. My son needed the exhaust elbow, $189.00.

At least you dont need to deal with getting an N number. There is a sad PZL 101 project around here that is probably dead more for paperwork than actually rebuilding it.

Looks like a bug without the cowl on. The three view really shows that it needs a cowl. Neat plane and can't wait to see you bring it back to life. So.....black and yellow? ;)

Very cool.. a face that only a mother could love! ;) The really cool part about it is that it shows your love for airplanes in general.. not just because someone else thinks it's cool.

Kewl! My first thought was Wilma too, and I always thought it would make a great back country aircraft.
