• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Received my aviat S1S plans in the mail yesterday and have a few questions regarding them. This will be my first aircraft build other than balsa RC planes so please bear with me.

On several instances there has been posts about the quality of the steen planes in relation to accuracy and the general consensus is to use the plans as a guide more so than building them off the diagram, is this true for the aviat plans as well?

I am planning to build the ribs first due to space constraints and for the sanity of my apartment mate.

On the wing ribs lower drawing (1-435) the scale is shown as full size yet the dimensions given on the plans are not accurate, is this intentional or are my plans printed to small? Looking at the rib gussets drawing (1-436) they clearly state that all parts are full size and these gussets when overlaid on the rib drawing match up in size which leads me (probably incorrectly) to believe the plans are not the correct size.

Thanks for any and all help!

Thomas
