• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I have not done much posting but events today lead me to ask for advice.
I have a Skybolt (IO-540) completed in 2006. Question concerns the brake
cylinders attached to the rudder peddles. I'm told they are the same as
used in a Husky, plunger pushes down into the cylinder when toe brake
is activated...pretty simple closed system...Flying inverted today(I just started more serious aerobatics) I got multiple drops of brake fluid on the canopy and I can't find an obvious leak. Hoses are fine and there are no vent holes in the fill plugs. My first thought was the leak was coming from around the push rods but when wiped with a cloth there was only a trace of fluid. I would say the canopy collected 10 good drops of fluid in a 6 minute inverted flight. In the past, normal loops, spins, rolls, point rolls and cubans have not produced any fluid. Brake function back on the ground was normal...
So...has anyone had a similar situation and if so, what did you find was
the cause...help...

Ed
