• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I put a post on the starduster section a month or two ago. I complained that my engine, an 320 a2b just did not seem right. The question was asked which carb I had, its a 10-3678-32. Several guys told me no good, swap it. I was stuck with a thirsty that takes a gallon or 2 an hour more to operate. The float bowl is even different. Change it you won't regret it. So I found a carb, a 5217, that had been rebuilt and then leaked. Bought it from a shop that was closing down. Had been on the shelf a long time. It looked like someone had set it down and bent the little tube from the pump, and knocked it loose. It looks like new, one piece venturi and metal float, the pump leather isn't even scarred. The inside smelled like solvent so I don't think it had been put on an engine since rebuild. The float shinny etc. The tube issue is solved with cleaner, prep, and locktite. So now I have the nozzle issue. Talked to Kelly Aerospace again. Confirmed what you guys said about the -32, even different float bowl, So I sent him a photo of the nozzle. He thinks it is proper but cannot be sure. He gave me the jet size which seems to be right sizing it with a drill bit shank. So for you experts if I have the proper one it should be quite a bit different from the original that was used with the 2 piece venturi. Short version, was the nozzle changed when the one piece venturi and metal float were put in. The float is date stamped 8 89. The metal float is staying. You old guys should know. I think the fellow at Kelly was probably in school when all this venturi stuff was going around and does not know what the old one looks like.

Thanks
