• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I noticed that my ASII just "felt a little different" last weekend so I thought it might be a good idea to pull the lower cowling, if for nothing else, to put my mind at ease that everything was ok.

After poking around for a few minutes, below is a pic of what I found. The engine mount is cracked near the upper LH engine mount. A trusted A&P/IA just happened to be in his hangar when I found this so I asked him to take a look and he confirmed what I was seeing.

I've been working on the 2013 Sportsman sequence quite regularly over the last couple of months, but I rarely saw over 4 G's. I'm guessing there was some sort of stress riser that was already there, but who knows.

Anyway, it looks like I'm taking the engine mount off for repair. Does anyone have any suggestions on a repair facility to send it to?

Thanks,
Cameron
