Has anyone here fit a two place canopy to an S-2A with the old style single place setup?

    Any advice, tricks, traps?

If you are going to do that, I would be interested in the old canopy and front hole cover.

    Merci,

Certified airplane? Factory parts should fit, yes?

And then, you double your hull premium with the 2-place canopy......(if you insure it)

Why would his hull Premium double? He will have a deductible for the canopy for around 6000$ But I don’t see why he would have anything change unless he upped the hull insurance.

The insurance likely already has the canopy deductible. Mine does even though I do not have a 2-place canopy, only the single place.

    Best of luck,

Not in Australia, they don’t seem to care.

My insurance doesn't have a canopy deductible but it was the only one of about five quotes that didn't. Of course I don't have one of those spontaneously removable $5000 canopies either........

You have to buy all the attaching parts from Aviat, Then place it on the plane where it looks like it will fit. Tape up the paint on the fuselage so you don't scratch it. Figure out where it fits best then drill the hinge holes on the rt side. Proceed slowly. Drill and clecko the windscreen down also with only 2 or 3 holes. After you get it to close and open then start fitting the locking pin blocks and the center block. You may have to shim them to get the correct height so it closes smoothly Lastly I put in the 10 inch long slider and shim it to fit. On a B the slider is only 3 inches long so make sure you get the long one foe an A model.

Go slow so you don't drill holes in the wrong place, don't be surprised to take 40 hours.

I forgot to mention, when I did mine, I moved the front screen with the dzus fastners to fit on the rear cockpit. So If i removed the 2 place canopy and installed the windscreen I was then open cockpit, add anther 10 hours for that but worth it.

Dan- did you fit the canopy for 161DS? We've got it out in HNL now & I think you were the previous owner? It's still working well!

Yes, That was mine, owned it for 28 years. Regret selling it. I never met the guy who bought it, (I sold to someone else) but think he is an Air Force guy and a friend of my friend, Mark D Was that you who tried to buy it from me also? Figuring Pensacola, you might be an Air Force or Navy guy. I remember a call.
That was a well balanced plane with the spades I had it. Streamlined struts, It flew real nice. About 15 years ago I won Advanced at Sebring in it against 16 other competitors. I just always wanted more power, hence the S-1-11

Tim at Tocumwal fitted a bubble canopy to CKS, similar SN to your Pitts, ANT.

Thanks for the update on 161DS! I did in fact call you from MD's office a couple years ago, we have the plane in Honolulu now (agree, flies beautifully! she was in a H50 episode recently too). I need to change my profile location and pic b/c my S1's been sold. Your S1-11 is stunning btw and if you're ever out west (Oahu)- come fly it with us anytime!

It's the Air race sabotage episode, it aired in dec or thereabouts (I haven't seen it yet), background shots mostly cause Pitts' don't have the best real estate & angles for cameras. Glasair III got the main act. Alex O'loughlin & the other actor's kids loved getting in and taking pics with it haha. We did switch the tailwheel back to the factory configuration though, but otherwise the same except a Garmin 327 and ADS-B. MD still flies it occasionally too :)
