My dad would have said, Son, the good Lord must have been smiling on you that day. The last time I went to start my 320 it did not want to start, nothing. The previous trip a hard start but everything else checked after that. No problems. After the failure to start plugs pulled, and everything mag wise check OK. I believe the reason it started with the hard start was the tank was full and I had just enough head to keep the carb happy. On the next try the fuel was down about 5 gallons and it did not have enough head to supply fuel with the tail down. I believe my mechanical pump is bad. My ignition switch is separate from my starter button so I can crank outside of the cockpit with the mags off. No fuel out the overboard pipe on the pump. Maybe a stuck valve in the pump? I have the typical wobble pump under my left knee. Pumping it made no difference. I know zip about wobble pumps but I would think it would firm up a after a few pumps. So short story I think I was flying with no fuel pump and if I had used more fuel and dropped the head I might have had an issue. When I push the throttle forward before starting I can usually hear the accelerator pump squirting, not so now. Both pumps coming out tomorrow so if I am on the wrong track enlighten me now and save me some work. Mostly the wobble pump. The fuel pump looks like the same basic one I have seen in a million boats. And yes, the fuel valve was on.
