• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi all. I'm new to posting, though I've been an active reader of this forum for about 3 years. I own a 1976 Great Lakes 2T-1A-2 biplane and keep it hangared at Santa Ana/John Wayne airport out here in California.

The seats in the thing are staring to really deteriorate and I have foam sticking out in an increasingly large number of places, especially the bottom cushions in both 'pits. So I've decided to have the seats re-upholstered.

The Great Lakes being an airplane that has not changed in design much since the 1930's, I wanted to give the seats a "vintage-y" look. I don't want a 1930's look necessarily, but maybe something 60's or - gasp- 70's. I was inspired by a Starduster I saw recently that had a very 1960's looking, 2-tone upholstery job like you might see in a classic car. It was gorgeous but I have no photo.

I was wondering if any of you had done any interesting upholstery work on your airplane? Or does everybody just stick with boring ol' black vinyl?

Thanks, and nice to "meet" all of you!
